Section 1.3- The Nature of Biology

1.3 Main Ideas-Biologists do their work in laboratories and in the field.  They collect both qualitative and
quantitative data from their expieriments and investigations.

-Scientists conduct investiagtions to increase knowledge about the natural world.
Scientific results may help solve some preblems, but not all.

1.3 Outline- Kinds of Research
                    -Quantitative Research-
                     -uses numbers-
                     -results in counts or measurements-
-used to make a graph or table-
                     -easy to understand-
                    -Measuring in the International System-
                     -called International System of Measurement-
                     -commonly known as SI-
                    -Descriptive Research-
                     -also called quantitative-
-used when numbers can't describe the results of an expierment-
                    Science and Society-
                     -ethics-
                    -can science answer all questions?
                     - simply put, NO!-
                    -can technology answer all questions?
                     -technology-
-technology may be able to answer, but it can't do what it says-
