Section 5.2

Section 5.2 Main Ideas
-Conservation biology is the study and implementation of methods to preserve Earth's biodiversity-
-Legal protection of species and habitat preservation have provided effective statagies in conservation biology-
-Larger protected areas generally have greater biodiversity than smaller protected areas-
-Animal reintroduction programs have been more successful when the reintroduced organisms come from the wild rather than from captivity-

Section 5.2
Define-captivity-
           -conservation biology-
           -habitat corridors
           -reintroduction programs-
           -sustainable use-
5.2 Outline-
Stratagies of Conservation Biology-
-conservation biology- a new field that studies and implements plans to protect biodiversity-
 -Legal protection of species-
-Endangered Species Act (1973)-makes it illegal to harm anything on the threatened or endangered list-
-harm includes to the specied itself, or to the environment where it lives-
 -Preserving Habitats-
  -making national parks-
-made for protecting the extinction of animals-
-only 6% of the earth's surface is protected this way-
-sustainable use-using only what you need to sustain yourself-
-habitat corridors-natural strips of land that connect one habitat to another-
 -Reintroducrion Program-
-reintriduction program- introducing surviving species to where they once lived, but were dying out-
-most successful when organism goes from one habitat to another-
-captivity- when an organism is held by people-
